Welcome to part 3 of my continuing tale of our Journey 4 Justice ride to Topeka. Today we check into the worst motel in the history of mankind. After a long hard day on the road we couldn't wait to get to our room. Little did I know that even after 14 hours on the road, the seat of my bike would be the most comfortable place I would be for awhile...

I am living proof of the old saying “you can’t judge a book by its cover”. The world is so guilty of this all the time. We see people and make a judgment about what kind of person they are based on their looks. People see me and think I am a big, tough beer drinking dude. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Easter Sunday is always a special day for me. This year was even more special because my whole family was here. Maybe its because I am getting older but I tend to cherish these times more than ever. You just never know how many of those moments you have left.

My name is Brian Gary and I am a reformed bully. When I look back on my life there are very few things I would change. I feel all the stupid things I have done and mistakes I have made have helped to shape me into what I am today. I feel it has all been for a purpose, to teach me what I know today...

I refuse to grow up and I continue to do stupid things. I think I have a defective gene or something. I have swam with huge bass inside the worlds largest traveling indoor aquarium. I have bungee jumped over a used car lot. I have lost a bet and had to get a Twinkie tattoo and now I have been inducted into the Wall of Flame at the Wing Shack in Greeley.

There are certain things in this world you don’t do. You don’t tug on Superman’s cape. You don’t spit into the wind. You don’t pull the mask off the Lone Ranger and you don’t mess with our national anthem. It happened again last night.

Whoever said a woman’s place is in the kitchen has never met the women in my life. First off there is Susan. Susan is much more handy in the barn than in the kitchen. Give her a pitch fork and she is in her element. Give her a spatula and she breaks into a cold sweat. In fact there are pictures of her with a line through it beside most kitchen appliances. Bless her heart.

30 years is a long time. Think about where you were 30 years ago. I was a 16 year old kid working at Hardees in Mandan, North Dakota. The woman who would become my wife was my supervisor. We used to sneak in the meat cooler and make out. I can never look at a meat cooler in a restaurant and not smile. I remember one night I accidently started the break room couch on fire. Have you been to store to shop for body soap lately? Holy cow what an adventure! How many scents and silkening agents does one man need? I stood in front of the rows and rows of soaps with my jaw on the ground in blank stare confusion.

Trying to decide whether to let you heart or your brain talk can be a battle. I have no problem speaking from the heart. I trust my heart and in many situations can just let it take over and run the show. If I am speaking at a fundraiser or in a school or any setting of public speaking I let my heart talk. If I am writing an email or letter, I need my brain.

Last week we had, in my mind, the most successful 28 Hours of Hope in its 14 year history. We raised nearly $75,000 to help abused children and Northern Colorado. More important than the money we raised was the awareness we raised. The more it is talked about, the more we shift the power out of the hand of the abuser. I am a people pleaser. I like to make people happy and if they are mad at me or upset with me, I really struggle. I believe the reason I let so few people into my life to really know me is because I fear the more people I let in, the more people I have a chance to let down. If someone seems upset with me, I attack it right away. I don’t wait to see what works out. I call them right away or go see
