I am living proof of the old saying “you can’t judge a book by its cover”. The world is so guilty of this all the time. We see people and make a judgment about what kind of person they are based on their looks. People see me and think I am a big, tough beer drinking dude. Nothing could be further from the truth. I am non-drinking teddy bear. Don’t get me wrong, I can attack if provoked but am actually a gentle soul. It seems like if you drape yourself in leather and have long hair , you are automatically a trouble maker. If you have spent any time with long haired bikers you know that underneath that leather can lie a heart of gold. There are bad people everywhere but they don’t look a certain way. They are everywhere. The same is true of good people.

Why are we surprised when someone like Susan Boyle sings beautifully? We have a preconceived notion that only the “pretty people” have talent. Have you ever bought a frozen pizza at the store because the picture on the box looked delicious only to find that inside was a unleavened wafer with 11 strands of cheese and few chunks of mystery meat? Sometimes things that are pretty on the outside are ugly on the inside.

Don’t let your eyes determine the value of something. You may miss out some of the wonderful people in the world and end up with a bunch of pretty pictures with no substance.
