There are countless amazing restaurants in Northern Colorado. I consider myself a foodie and I love trying new experiences as well as some spots in Fort Collins, Loveland, Windsor, and Greeley where I would be considered a regular.

I am not one to typically complain, but I had a strange experience in Fort Collins that made me raise an eyebrow.

Dining By Yourself in Fort Collins

My girlfriend was out of town for a week recently and I was home alone. I grew tired of making meals at home, so I decided to take myself out on a little date.

This isn’t uncommon for me. I enjoy my own company from time to time. I have gone to movies, concerts, and dinner by myself many times. I have never considered a solo date to be strange.

That was until a waiter at a Fort Collins restaurant made me feel differently about it. I will leave the business name out of it.

I went to order my meal and he said, “Oh are you waiting for somebody?”.

I told him no and I thought the conversation was over. He gave me a bizarre look and said “Well that’s weird… And brave of you”.

Brave? I couldn’t help myself from laughing.

I am generally a confident person. I have to be honest, I was pretty self-conscious for the entire meal. I ate quickly and got out of there quickly.

Is Eating By Yourself… Brave?

It’s important to keep in mind that this waiter was very young. As you get older you get more comfortable in your skin. You care less about what people think about you.

So I started to think and debate with myself whether or not it is weird to eat alone. It turns out, that dining by yourself is not strange and it is a growing trend. A new report shows that 68% of us look forward to eating alone.

That statistic still wasn’t enough for me. I reached out on Facebook to see what Northern Coloradans thought.

By judging the comments, Coloradans feel comfortable eating by themselves.

No issues doing that, going out to eat, movies, traveling. When my boyfriend did a guys fishing trip... I grabbed my 2 pups and drove all the way to Yellowstone for 3 days...had a blast. Have also flown to Vegas and spent 3 days laying by the pool several times.- Brenda

That sounds like a ton of fun. Here is the flip side of the argument.

I hate going to restaurants alone. People look at me like I'm different or know that I'm single and don't have many friends. Been dealing with these feelings since my divorce 9 years ago. Goes with the territory of being older and being divorced. - Doug
