Fort Collins Man Identified Following Officer-Involved Shooting
There is a major update on the investigation regarding a shooting that occurred on July 21 that involved Fort Collins Police Services.
The Larimer County Sheriff's Office released a statement on July 22 that detailed the incident.
At 12:41 p.m., Fort Collins Police responded to a single-car accident at Mountain and Bryan avenues, in northwest Fort Collins.
According to the statement, Fort Collins police found a man, Clayton Pierce, outside of the vehicle with a gun. According to police, the man shot at officers and ran into Grandview Cemetery.
Status on Fort Collins Shooting Suspect
There was more gunfire, and Pierce was injured, according to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office. Officers rendered first aid, but he died at the hospital.
Police reported that Pierce had multiple firearms. Surrounding roads were closed for 11 hours during the incident and investigation.
Pierce is reported as the only person in the vehicle during the crash. Two dogs were in the car, and one is still missing, according to the statement. No bystanders were injured; however, one officer was injured and is recovering. Several vehicles including police cruisers were damaged by gunshots.
The Larimer County Sheriff's Office is leading the investigation, and more information will be announced.
Many Fort Collins residents talked about their experience with the shooting on social media. One noticed that there were no golfers at City Park and found it strange.
Another claims they saw the driver. Others report they saw law enforcement in full camo and tactical gear.
