One of Biggest Solar Projects Across the Globe Coming to Northern Colorado
More solar power is coming to Northern Colorado. Although expensive to build, solar power saves Coloradans money in the long run while limiting pollution.
Many of us are unaware of one of the biggest reasons solar power works so well in Colorado. Colorado happens to be one of the sunniest states in the nation. So adding renewable energy from solar panels is a great idea.
Governor Jared Polis announced that Colorado plans to have 100% renewable energy by 2040 in order to fight cost, climate change, and pollution. A major step has been taken in Northern Colorado to make that plan more of a reality.
Largest Solar Project in Severance
Platte River Power Authority announced that they have partnered with Qcells to build the largest solar project in the history of Colorado.
Right now, Colorado has the tenth most solar-powered homes in the country.
The project will be built near the town of Severance near Black Hollow Reservoir and will provide power for Fort Collins, Loveland, Estes Park, and Longmont by 2025 with additional communities by 2026.
Platte River Power Authority says the first phase will be completed by May of next year. That phase will add 367,000 megawatt-hours of energy per year.
In 2026, the second phase will be complete. Here are the details on that.
...Phase two of Black Hollow Solar will add an additional 107 MW of capacity in 2026, totaling 257 MW for this project. This is enough to power over 63,000 homes and will increase Platte River’s total solar capacity to 309 MW.
Where Most of Energy Is Coming From Right Now
Platte River Power Authority says that the majority of their power and electricity comes from coal. This is a major step to eliminate pollutants.
Yes, this will cost quite a bit at first, but in the end, this is the future of energy.
