A new rankings list has been published featuring the top 20 high schools in Colorado, and one Poudre School District (PSD) school found itself among the top five on the list.

U.S News and World Report recently published their annual rankings list of the top 20 public high schools in Colorado for 2021. You can view the rankings below:

  1. D’Evelyn Junior/Senior High School, Jeffco Public Schools
  2. Peak to Peak Charter School, Boulder Valley School District
  3. Stargate Charter School, Adams 12 Five Star Schools
  4. Liberty Common Charter School, Poudre School District***
  5. Denver School of the Arts, Denver Public Schools
  6. Stapleton High School, Denver Public Schools
  7. The Vanguard School, Cheyenne Mountain School District
  8. KIPP Denver Collegiate High School, Denver Public Schools
  9. Green Valley Ranch High School, Denver Public Schools
  10. STEM School Highlands Ranch, Douglas County School District
  11. Fairview High School, Boulder Valley School District
  12. Cherry Creek High School, Cherry Creek School District
  13. Prospect Ridge Academy, Adams 12 Five Star Schools
  14. The Classical Academy High School, Academy School District No. 20
  15. Evergreen High School, Jeffco Public Schools
  16. Aspen High School, Aspen School District

Although the rankings list shows that Denver and its surrounding metropolitan areas are home to 14 of Colorado’s top 20 public high schools, one Northern Colorado public high school - Liberty Common Charter School of the Poudre School District (PSD) - earned a spot towards the top of the list, ranked at #4.

U.S. News and World Report ranks schools annually based on multiple factors, including the proportion of 12th graders who took advanced placement and international baccalaureate exams, math and reading standardized testing scores, and graduation rates. How underserved students perform - including low-income, Black and Hispanic enrollees - is also taken into account when ranking the schools.

According to U.S News and World Report, the Liberty Common Charter School in Fort Collins has a 99 percent graduation rate - not to mention that the high school is also rated #1 among Fort Collins Metro Area high schools, #1 among the Poudre School District, and #141 among thousands of high schools across the nation.

U.S. News and World Report ranked 368 schools in Colorado and approximately 17,800 schools nationwide.

Out of nearly 24,000 U.S. public high schools that were reviewed by U.S. News and World Report; 368 Colorado schools made the publication's rankings.

The Centennial State ranked ninth in the country based on the number of schools that fell in the top 5%, 10% and 25% of public schools across the nation. Massachusetts ranked first, while Maine ranked last in the state-by-state comparison.
