A male driver suffered a medical event behind the wheel on Thursday (May 13) that caused him to veer off the road, eventually coming to a stop on the property of a Fort Collins elementary school.

According to Fort Collins Police, officers responded to a one-vehicle collision that occurred at the intersection of Lockwood and Springwood in Fort Collins at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

The male driver had suffered a medical event while operating his vehicle, at which time his vehicle left the road, hit a fence, and came to a stop on school property of Shepardson Elementary, part of the Poudre School District.

The vehicle clipped an adult cyclist, who was evaluated at the scene for minor injuries and released, as per the official Fort Collins Police Twitter page. There were reportedly no additional injuries as a result of the Thursday afternoon crash.

The adult male driver of the vehicle was later transported to an area hospital. Although Fort Collins Police have publicly thanked school staff & first responders for quickly working together to handle the incident, no further information regarding the male driver's identity or his current status of health has been released to the public at this time.
