It'll be a week full of things to be thankful for, right? Not if you really needed your kids to be in school on Monday, November 22nd, and Tuesday, November 23rd. Poudre School District announced Friday, November 12th that students will have two have extra days off for Thanksgiving break.

As with so many industries right now, there is a staff shortage and lots of requested time off, but also listed by PSD as a reason for the extra days off is that "people are feeling worn down or downright exhausted." This is certainly concerning.

Childcare on these days will be provided, but you must arrange for it. AlphaBEST will provide childcare at O’Dea and Werner elementary schools in Fort Collins.

Here is the full Poudre School District announcement:

This is an announcement that Poudre School District, including all schools, will now be closed Nov. 22-23. School and district offices will not be open to the public. This change means that fall break is now Nov. 22-26.

PSD’s decision, which aligns with those made by districts along the Front Range, was made for a couple of reasons.

First, we anticipate significant staffing shortages close to the fall break. Simply put, there aren’t enough people to provide the coverage needed to care for students across the district.

At the same time, we know that many of our staff, students and families are facing unique challenges. People are feeling worn down or downright exhausted. Our hope is that these days off provide some opportunities for respite.

Key need-to-know information:
