Everyone does it. We all fart. No matter if you are a man, woman, child, old, young, no matter what race you are, we all fart. Even animals do it. Some find it amusing, while others find it distasteful. Some are loud, some are quiet, some are stinky, and some have no smell at all. Farts happen every day, and they are a natural part of the human body. It is a topic that some don't like to talk about because they find it immature and gross, and for others, it is a topic they find humor and joy in. While most run away or cover their nose when a stink bomb happens, perhaps you should take another approach. Is it possible that smelling a stinky fart in Colorado could be good for your brain and help prevent a nasty disease from happening to you?

It may sound disgusting, but according to a recent study from John Hopkins, smelling a stinky fart could be good for your brain. Hydrogen sulfide is the chemical released when one farts and is what makes it smell. Through a recent study, it was determined that whiffing this chemical might help protect the aging brain from cognitive decline. Not only that, but it could decrease the likelihood of you getting Alzheimer's disease. Since your body naturally makes and releases this chemical, this means that you have a way to help protect your brain and potentially avoid an incurable disease. Before you go smelling hydrogen sulfide, though, it is good to know that high doses are deadly, but luckily, the body does not release anywhere near that amount.

Before you brush off this study, it was tested on mice, and the results were astounding. After 12 weeks of tests on mice, the creatures showed that cognitive and motor functions increased by 50 percent, and were much more physically active than those that did not receive the chemical. The mice that were tested also showed better memories, being able to return to locations and platforms. While this is a small sample size, it shows that researchers are onto something and potentially could find a way to help Alzheimer's in the future.

It may not be ideal, but the next time you release a stinky one, you may want to take a big whiff to help your brain. Researchers say this isn't the ideal solution and will continue their study, but it seems like smelling your own farts might be the best thing for your brain moving forward.
