Alcohol can be a great way to relax and have some fun, but it can also be dangerous as well. There are many in Colorado who drink alcohol, and while most do so safely, there are some who don't. Sadly, there are many alcohol related deaths in Colorado each year, but how many are there and how does the state compare to others?

Sadly, sometimes people get behind the wheel after drinks, walk out into the street, or do stupid things that lead to death. A recent study from seobacklinks.co.uk revealed the states that experience the most drinking-related deaths each year. According to the study, New Mexico experiences the most alcohol related deaths each year, with an average of 35.9 per 100,000 residents. The state with the second most is South Dakota, with 34.6 deaths per 100,00 residents, and coming in at third is Wyoming, with 29.7 deaths per 100,000 residents. Thankfully, Colorado did not make the top three, but where does the Centennial State fall on the list?

Alcohol Related Deaths Per Year in Colorado

With so many great places to have a glass of wine, a beer, or a drink in Colorado, it is likely not surprising to hear that Colorado is in the top ten for most alcohol related deaths in America. Colorado comes in at 8th in the country with an average of 22 alcohol-related deaths per 100,000 residents. This number is alarming as it is 82% higher than the national average, which is 12.1. These deaths are most common in adults aged 45 to 64. For those thinking it is the young drinkers causing the fatalities, the data says otherwise. These types of deaths are also more common among men than women.
