Everyone seems to have a cell phone these days. Growing up, many of us were asking our parents when we would get our first phones. Perhaps you were the first among your friends to have one; maybe you got one when the majority of your friends and classmates did, or sadly, maybe you were the last one to get one. Today, it seems like kids are getting them younger than ever, but there might be a reason for parents doing so. Many parents in Colorado want their young children to have cell phones because of how they are using them these days.

Most of us were in high school or older when we got our first cell phones, but there are some who got them in middle school or even in elementary school. Many kids have them today, but that is how parents want it. Gabb.com revealed how parents are using tech with their children these days. Most parents who give their child a cell phone are using it to check in with them throughout the day. An astounding 85% use it to check in with their child at least once, and 19% do so multiple times an hour. Text messages is the number one way parents connect with their kids, and 93% are doing so. One of the biggest benefits to giving children phones is that 85% of parents use it to know their location, but there are 9% of parents that do it without their child knowing.

While parents are using it to track their children, make sure they are safe, and stay in connection with them, how are the children using them? Parents aren't dummies, and 92% of parents are monitoring or limiting apps for their children, so they don't have free rein on their phone. While some parents are controlling, 43% have reduced their monitoring to show trust with their child and let him have some independence. With children having phones, and many schools banning them, are parents upset they can't always connect with their child? According to the study, 54% of parents support no phones allowed in school. According to the study, 66% of parents check in with their kids a few times a day, 19% do so multiple times an hour, 9% do so only once a day, and only 1% never do.
