What in God’s Name is Happening to the Old Albertsons in NOCO?
Albertsons used to be my jam. This was before Walmart was everywhere. So when the location on North College closed, I was seriously bummed out. I cried, but I was also pregnant at the time, so take it for what it is, I guess. Also, Albertsons got freaky, and I was afraid to go there alone at night.
So if you're like me, a former North College Albertsons lover, you're probably also wondering what is even going on over there right now. The lot is completely empty and has been for literal years.
Here's the info on our old hangout
- It's located in Fort Collins and has been in business for decades.
- It just had the parking lot refinished. What's that called? I forgot.
- Wait....it's new asphalt.
- Apparently, the old Albertsons is just a small part of a bigger picture, meaning a bigger project spanning a big chunk of North College. Does that even make sense?
- The "Larger Plan" is said to include a new development. A lot like the old one they just knocked down, but different.
- They would like to create a better transit and improvements in walkability. I think this means trails. Your guess is as good as mine.
- Revitalize the area. With new buildings and spiffy new asphalt, they could probably get a pretty penny for the location
- There are also rumors that an event center might be going in.
So what the heck is taking so long?
- So many reasons why this could take forever and a day
- Projects this big usually take years to complete, if ever.
- Developers, city planning, and zoning expectations are apparently a nightmare.
What does this mean for us?
- Nothing. We will most likely be dead by the time this all happens.
