Story Time

Just the other day, there was a knock at my door, and when I answered, a man claiming to be an exchange student from Russia was selling books for kids.

I should mention that I do not like confrontation. Not that this guy wasn't lovely, but I think solicitors are trained to keep the homeowner on the hook for as long as possible. I just couldn't find an out in the conversation because every time I said no thank you, he just kept pushing.

Did I also mention I have a no solicitation sign right next to the doorbell? I do, but that doesn't seem to matter anymore, I guess.

Am I The Only One?

For a long time, I thought it was just me until I opened up Facebook this morning and read a post from a woman not only 21 weeks pregnant but also the mom of a one-year-old. If you've ever had small kids, you know that nap time is soooo important. Baby needs sleep, and so do moms.

Maybe it was the pregnancy hormones, but after the guy rang the bell and knocked multiple times, she came unglued.

So I guess I'm not alone. But what are the official rules when it comes to solicitors? Let's take a look.

Solicitation Laws In Northern Colorado

  • The solicitor has to wear something that indicates he/shw works for the company they're pushing.
  • Solicitors can only knock on your door from 9 am to sunset.
  • If you have a No Solicitation or a No Trespassing sign, they cannot knock or ring the bell.
  • Solicitors must also have a city permit or a city-issued badge.

So I guess the bottom line is: if you have a No Soliciting or No Trespassing sign, your house should technically be untouchable.
