Two Colorado Puppies Rescued After Being Tossed in a Dumpster
As a pet owner, this story infuriates me so much. Two puppies were tossed in a dumpster in Longmont, Colorado this week. Thankfully the duo were found by neighbors in the area on Tuesday morning.
According to 9 News, the Shih Tzu puppies were found huddled together and appeared terrified in the dumpster near Zlaten Drive and Timm Way in an apartment complex. A good samaritan by the name of Cierra Barajas was walking her dogs in the area when a neighbor approached her and told her about the dogs in the dumpster.
Barajas wound up inside the dumpster and fed the pair leftover ground beef from her refrigerator. After getting the puppy's tummies full of food, she took the two to the Longmont Humane Society for care.
Longmont Humane Society Deputy Director, Cliff Cullen, told 9 News that the Longmont Humane Society offers an after-hours drop-off service for animals that is safe, temperature-controlled, and has a space with food and water for the animals.
While I do understand that people can and do go through tough times, there is absolutely no excuse whatsoever to simply toss dogs into a dumpster. It's disgusting and cruel.
The two Shih Tzu puppies have been evaluated by Longmont Animal Control and despite the pair being found in a dumpster, they are in good condition, clean, healthy, and well-groomed.
An investigation is currently underway into the two abandoned dogs. Anyone who might have video footage that may help identify and track down the person who threw the dogs into the dumpster is being asked to call 303-651-8501 and reference the report number, 24-11459.
