WalletHub put together a list of the best and worst places to retire in the U.S.

Before I even read it, I thought Florida, California, New Mexico or other warm weather states would be at the top. I actually wasn't too far off.

One city in the top ten is a relatively short drive from Northern Colorado.

The list was based off of several key factors: affordability, activities, quality of life, and health care.

According to the ranking, these are the top ten cities in America to retire.

  • Orlando, Florida

  • Scottsdale, Arizona

  • Minneapolis, Minnesota

  • Miami, Florida

  • Tampa, Florida

  • Atlanta, Georgia

  • Fort Lauderdale, Florida

  • Cincinnati, Ohio

  • Madison, Wisconsin

  • Casper, Wyoming

Florida takes up half of the spots on the list, but some of the other locations might surprise you.

Frankly, I was shocked that Ohio, Wisconsin, and Wyoming got a shoutout.

Where Colorado Ranks for Retirement

Now, where does Colorado fall?

We're not too far behind, with Denver, coming in 17th on the list of best retirement locations in the country. The Mile High City is ranked eighth in the country when it comes to activities.

U.S. News World Report found the best places to retire to in Colorado. They score towns based off public data and user opinions. To get to the top spot on the list, a place must have high scores in desirability and quality of life.
