Colorado Travelers: Important Passport Policy Change Ahead
I recently acquired my first passport and I am incredibly excited. I am going on my first international vacation soon. I was nervous about the process in Colorado, however, I found it to be easy. Getting your passport is incredibly easy as long as you prepare.
We have good news if you have a passport. Renewing your passport just became way more easy.
Passports and Colorado
USA Today announced that you can now renew your passport online. The State Department says that you can renew your passport online, however, there are a few things you need to consider before you start the process.
You need to be at least 25 years old and have a 10-year passport issued between 2009 and 2015.
Why Online? Coloradans Might Ask
The U.S. Department of State says that they are trying to improve efficiency. If you have a passport, you know that it feels like an outdated method.
By offering this online alternative to the traditional paper application process, the Department is embracing digital transformation to offer the most efficient and convenient passport renewal experience possible.
We want to be clear that getting a passport online is only for renewals. If you do not have a passport, or if your passport was not issued between 2009 and 2015, you will have to go through the normal steps in person in order to get your passport.
Should Coloradans Be Concerned About Renewing Online?
No. Previously, Coloradans had to mail in their applications for a passport renewal. Mail theft is growing rapidly in Colorado and we should be thankful that there is an alternative.
Plus, this is way more convenient. Just make sure you are not on any suspicious websites.
