Security when it comes to flying can be a pain in the butt. Nobody likes having to wait in a long line, get scanned, sometimes be patted down, have strangers go through your bags, and feel like you are being interrogated constantly. While we all know this is for our safety, it doesn't mean it isn't annoying and the worst part about flying. Most regular flyers know what is and isn't allowed through security, and those who don't fly often can hold up lines by trying to bring something not allowed. We all know guns aren't allowed through security at the airport, but people at a Colorado airport are still trying to get them on the plane

Ever since September 11, 2001, security at the airport has changed. There are many things not allowed on airplanes anymore, and one of those is a gun. This is for obvious reasons, but that doesn't mean people don't still try. In America, if you have a license to carry, some think that means they should be able to carry onto an airplane, and while that is a discussion for another day, we all know why they are not allowed. According to a study by playcasino.com, some airports see a lot of guns attempted to get through security, with Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport seeing the most, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport seeing the second most in the country, and Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport rounding out the top three. Where does Colorado fall on this list, and how high does the airport in Denver rank?

Denver International Airport is not immune to seeing passengers attempt to get guns through security. Denver ranks sixth on the list, having seen 166 firearms in 2024 and having 4.15 million passenger boardings. While 166 is a high number in a year, the ratio, when you consider how many guns that is per passenger, is lower than most on the list. While this is good for Denver, that number still needs to come down. Nationally, there were 6,678 guns taken at airport security in 2024, and alarmingly, 94% of them were loaded.

For some, they carry them at all times and likely didn't think about it, while others may have had bad intentions. As you book trips for the holiday season at the end of the year or a trip for the end of the summer, remember to leave your firearms at home or to put them in a checked bag, unloaded, and not on you or in your bag at security.
