Northern Colorado is Under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch
As the summer starts to come to a close in Northern Colorado, one would think that the risk of severe weather would diminish as the days get shorter. Yet, here we are amid the possibility of more severe storms in the middle of August on a Monday afternoon.
The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for much of Eastern Colorado until 9 p.m. on Monday, August 19. The counties that could impacted by this severe thunderstorm watch include Weld and Morgan counties in Northern Colorado.
Thunderstorms are likely Monday afternoon into the early evening. Some of the possible storms could become severe and could produce large hail up to an inch in diameter with strong wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour. There is also a possibility of heavy rainfall from thunderstorms which could cause flash flooding in some areas, especially in mountain burn areas.
More Thunderstorms in Northern Colorado This Week
The National Weather Service is also predicting more storms that could occur later this week starting on Wednesday through Friday. Scattered thunderstorms are expected on these days each afternoon and into the early evening.
Colorado's favorite weather guy, Cody, at Denver Front Range Weather, is saying that there is a possibility for scattered hail up to two inches in diameter could be possible in the severe thunderstorm watch area Monday afternoon and evening.
While I do love a good thunderstorm, I dread the thought of dealing with hail again this season. It already totaled one of my vehicles and damaged my home. I do not want to have to deal with the chance of severe weather damaging any more of my things this season.
