Northern Colorado Is Cracking Down On Doggy Doo

Just a few days ago, I was standing on my front porch, hidden by trees, when I saw a neighbor walking her dog. The dog stopped and went number two in my front yard.

Now, in all fairness, she wasn't paying attention to her dog trailing behind her because she had her nose in her phone and was walking ahead.

In that moment, I froze. I hate confrontation, so I didn't say anything about it because I'm a chicken baby. It got me wondering what the actual laws in Northern Colorado are regarding cleaning up after your dog.

So let's take a look, because the rules and regulations are tougher than you may think.

FOCO law requires people to pick up their dog's waste immediately. And that means in public spaces as well as private property. Pretty much, if it isn't your property, don't leave your dog's poop.

This includes sidewalks, trails, parks, apartment common areas, and YOUR NEIGHBOR'S LAWN.

I'm not bitter.

According to Loveland Municipal Code 6.20.050, you suck if you let your dog poop in YOUR NEIGHBOR'S YARD.  That's not actually what it says. The code requires citizens to pick up their dog's waste immediately, whether it's in a park, an apartment common area, on a trail, or pretty much anywhere you walk your dog.

Plot twist: You also have to fish the turd out of any bodies of water.

Wanna have a misdemeanor on your permanent record? Do you? Is that even a thing? Whether it is or isn't, keep in mind that if you let your dog poop in Greeley, especially in common and private areas AND SOMEONE'S FRONT YARD, you may be in trouble.
