The Fourth of July is nearly here, and many Americans are excited, as this year will mark the 250th birthday of the greatest country on earth. Not only is America celebrating a milestone, but so is Colorado, which is celebrating its 150th birthday. Many families have traditions on the Fourth of July, and for some that includes buying and setting off fireworks. There are many stands around the state selling fireworks, and some residents even prefer to cross the border and go buy them in Wyoming. Most know there are certain laws when it comes to fireworks in Colorado. One Northern Colorado town wants to remind the public that all fireworks are illegal this year in city limits.

Most residents in Northern Colorado know the fireworks laws for their town. Some allow safe and grounded fireworks, and some ban everything. Fort Collins police recently posted on Facebook reminding all residents that all fireworks are banned in city limits. This includes selling them, buying them, owning them or shooting them off.  This even includes sparklers and snakes, which most think are legal, but are not. Due to the drought this year, it is encouraged to skip firing off your own fireworks this year, as the fire danger is extremely great in most areas around Colorado. If caught using fireworks, you could face a fine of up to $1,000. That would make a sparkler or snake one of the most expensive you would ever buy if caught with them.

While Fort Collins has banned ownership of fireworks, surrounding towns do allow them. Loveland, Greeley, and Johnstown all allow ground-based fireworks such as sparklers, fountains, smoke bombs, snakes, spinners, and other novelty items.
