Traffic Cameras Monitor More Than You Think in Fort Collins
For anyone who lives in Northern Colorado, it is no secret that there are cameras at some intersections in the area that flash and take pictures of license plates. They can often be a distraction, especially at night, and many have had letters in the mail for running a red light because these cameras caught them. While most suspect that the intersection cameras are only monitoring those that run red lights, they are doing much more than that in Fort Collins.

When a light turns yellow, there are many drivers who speed up and try to make it through the intersection to save time, and because sometimes it isn't possible to brake without ending up in the intersection. Lights in Northern Colorado appear to go from red to yellow to green quicker than anywhere else, and some speculate that this is on purpose so more drivers are caught going through red lights, which in reality puts drivers at risk. Yes, there are cameras in the area that will send you a ticket in the mail if you are caught going through a red light, but did you know these cameras are also used to monitor your speed as well?
Speeding in Fort Collins

Most drivers keep their eyes open for police officers when they drive, often slowing down when they see them, even if not speeding. With technology, things have changed, and now officers don't need to be present for you to get a speeding ticket. Certain intersection cameras in Fort Collins monitor speed, and you will be issued a ticket if you are caught going 11 miles per hour or more through the area. If between 11 and 24 miles per hour over the speed limit, it is a $40 fine and no points on your license, but if you are 25 miles per hour or over the speed limit, it is a 6-point traffic infraction, requiring a court appearance and personal service for the citation. For drivers, this is good to know, especially if you are someone who typically goes a little over the speed limit. It no longer takes an officer to get ticketed like the old days.
