There's a new oldest-living cat right meow, according to Guinness World Records.

Corduroy, now the oldest living cat, celebrated his 26th birthday on August 1. His owner, Ashley Reed Okura, says the expansive 160-acre open space she and Corduroy grew up on in Sisters, Oregon, played a major role in his long-lasting life.

"I allowed Corduroy to roam the ranch freely, so he always got lots of exercise," Okura told Guinness. "The secret has been allowing him to be a cat - hunting and getting plenty of love."

Okura also attributes good genes to his longevity - Corduroy's brother, Batman, lived to be 19.

While Corduroy is currently the oldest living cat, he isn't the oldest cat to ever live. The oldest cat ever, Creme Puff of Austin, TX, lived to be 38 years old but passed away in 2005.

I'm not surprised open space, love, and allowing Corduroy to be a cat is what helped him to live so long. My first dog, Buddy (right), lived to be 16 years of age - he got a daily dose of 1,000+ kisses, roamed our backyard and soaked up sun almost daily, and went on many adventures throughout the years. He lived a very fulfilling life! Unfortunately my little man passed away in March of this year.

What's your fountain of youth secret?
