Betty White was an icon for so many years. Her spunk, her attitude and her talents were just a few of the things that allowed her to stand the test of time and be adored by millions of fans all over the world.

I grew up in the 80s, so "The Golden Girls" was a show that was always on. Even when it was just reruns, it was a show that I always loved. While the entire cast was brilliant, I always thought Betty and her "Ah shucks" attitude and silly character were brilliant, relatable, and was why I initially fell in love with her.

The older she got, it seemed like the more popular she became because she was just always relatable and cool, especially for someone her age. She was just very easy to like and that right there says a lot about the woman she was, why she stood out, and why so many people adored her.

Something else that made her stand out and didn't always get recognition was her love for animals and helping those in need.

Betty was so kind to everyone she encountered whether it was a human or animal. In fact, she was a lover of all animals. So this challenge is really an homage to her and her life that is set to take place on what would have been her 100th birthday.

It's actually a social media challenge. But don't worry, not all social media challenges are created equal. This one actually serves a really great purpose and doesn't require you to do anything stupid.

It simply encourages us to donate $5 to any animal rescue or shelter in her name.

That's it, a $5 donation challenge in the name of Betty White to help animals.

If you're curious as to where you can make your donation on Jan. 17, here's a list of some of Northern Colorado's no-kill animal shelters.
