Man Guilty of Attempted Second-Degree Murder of Milliken Police Officer

A man is facing up to 35 years in prison as a result of shooting at a Milliken police officer in June of 2017.

At his court date last week, a Weld jury gave John Lockhart the guilty verdict for one count of attempted second degree murder, stemming from an incident in which he fired several shots at a Milliken police officer's vehicle during a high-speed pursuit. One of Lockhart's gunshots entered the officer's headlight, but the officer was not injured. During the chase, Lockhart reached speeds of 115 mph in a 55 mph zone.

Lockhart made an appearance in court in March, however the judge declared a mistrial because the jury was not able to reach a unanimous decision. During this court date though, the jury did find Lockhart guilty of vehicular eluding.

The official sentencing will happen in front of a judge at 10:30 a.m. on July 30.
