A man is dead following a motorcycle crash that occurred on February 27 in south Fort Collins.

According to The Coloradoan, the man was heading west on Rock Creek Drive on his 2017 Harley Davidson around 11:30 pm. that evening.

As he approached the roundabout at the Corbett Drive intersection, he lost control and crashed into the center median.

Officials transported him to a hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

The intersection was closed for almost four hours while investigators analyzed the collision sight.

The Larimer County Coronor's Office identified the man as 36-year-old Aaron K. Hootman II of Yorkville, Illinois.

Officers believe that speed was a factor in the crash. Hootman was also not wearing a helmet.

"Our hearts are with the family of the motorcyclist during this difficult time," said Fort Collins Police Services (FCPS) Chief Jeff Swoboda. "The loss of a loved one is never easy, especially in unexpected circumstances such as this."

This is the eighth fatal motor vehicle accident Larimer County has seen in 2020.
