Officials with Fort Collins Police Services are currently investigating a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision that resulted in life-threatening injuries earlier this week.

On Monday night (Jan. 10) at approximately 8:47 p.m., Fort Collins Police were made aware of a collision between a vehicle and an individual just east of the intersection of Meadowlark Drive on Horsetooth Road.

According to a Tuesday, Jan. 11 news release via Fort Collins Police Services, a deputy from Larimer County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene shortly before Fort Collins Police were able to get there, and located an adult female who had been seriously injured.

The woman, whose identity has not been made publicly available at this time, was transported to a local hospital in the area with life-threatening injuries. Due to the severity of her injuries, the Fort Collins Police CRASH (Collision Reconstruction and Scene Handling) Team responded, as per the news release.

Through conducting an investigation into the incident, it was revealed that a 2006 Toyota Tacoma had been traveling westbound when it collided with the female unidentified pedestrian who is believed to have been crossing from the south side of the road to the north side.

The pedestrian was reportedly not in a crosswalk at the time of the collision; investigators are currently looking to figure out whether or not she was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

The driver of the Tacoma involved in the collision, an adult male, stopped on the scene according to officials. Police do not believe that speed or impairment were involved with the driver of the Tacoma, whose identity has also not been released at this time.

“Pedestrian collisions continue to account for a number of our serious injury crashes. We ask that pedestrians utilize crosswalks as they increase safety for both pedestrian and vehicle traffic,” said Sergeant Mike Avrech who oversees the Fort Collins CRASH Team.

Should you or anyone you know have information regarding this collision and have not already spoken to police, you are asked to call Officer Ken Koski with Fort Collins Police Services at (970)-416-2229.
