Fort Collins Police are investigating a stabbing incident that occurred over the weekend.

According to a press release from the City of Fort Collins, police received a 911 call regarding a stabbing at 1220 East Stuart Street at about 12:59 a.m. on Saturday morning (Mar. 13).

The release said an adult female called 911 and told police she had been stabbed and locked herself in a room to get away from a man who was still inside the building.

When officers arrived on scene, the woman exited the residence and was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

Officers were able to spot the male suspect inside the building with injuries that are believed to have been self-inflicted, as per the release. The male suspect was also transported to an area hospital for medical treatment.

Both the male and female are expected to survive their injuries.

Fort Collins Police Detectives responded to the scene and have since taken over the investigation.

Detectives know the two people involved in the incident are related to each other, and they are continuing to investigate the event that led up to this incident. Charges are pending for the male suspect, and the case will be filed with the Larimer County District Attorney's Office at a later date.

"I'm grateful for the quick and professional response of our officer's and medical personnel," said Fort Collins Police Chief Jeff Swoboda. "Our detectives will continue to gather all of the facts surrounding this case and work with our other partners in the criminal justice system to seek justice for the victim."

In addition, officials say the incident is not a threat to the community at this time.
