Here’s How Much Daylight Colorado Will Lose in July and August
Why Summer Feels Longer When You're a Kid
Growing up, there were so many reasons to love summer!
No school!
No responsibilities!
And you could stay out later during the week!
The reason for the later curfew (at least in my house) had to do with school being out AND the fact that we'd get more daylight in the summer months.

Colorado Mornings Hit Different—Especially When You’re Up Before Sunrise
During the week, I wake up pretty early. I work the morning shift, so I've got to be up and at 'em before the sun even is out sometimes.
For the past few months I have been getting to work when the sun rises.
As someone who has worked early hours for a few years now, I know this won't last for long.
Why Early Northern Colorado Sunrises Won’t Stick Around Forever
The Longest Day of the Year in Colorado Already Passed
The longest day of the year in the Northern hemisphere is the summer solstice (June 20th). On this day, Northern Colorado was seeing approximately 15 hours and 7 minutes of daylight, according to the Old Farmer's Almanac.
Northern Colorado Is Already Losing Daylight
Once the first day of summer passes, then the days begin to get shorter. At first this is pretty gradual.
How Much Daylight Colorado Lost in July
On July 13th, 2025 Northern Colorado (Weld county specifically) saw approximately 14 hours and 52 minutes of daylight. If you do the math, that means we've lost about fifteen minutes of daylight over the course of three and a half weeks.
Fast forward to July 31st and NoCo is forecasted to have only 14 hours and 21 minutes of daylight.
Over the course of one month, the Centennial State is expected to lose 46 minutes of daylight.
Colorado Sunsets Will Keep Getting Earlier Through Fall
Don't even get us started on what's going to happen to the sunshine in August and September though!
By the time August wraps up, we will be having days that last approximately 13 hours and 7 minutes.
