Why Many Won’t Take Trips This Summer in Colorado
School is getting out, the weather is getting warmer, and summer is unofficially here for many in Colorado. Over the next few months, many will take advantage of the season by getting outdoors, staying up late, and enjoying the long days and beautiful weather. Most families have summer traditions they look forward to, like trips to the lake, going to the water park, camping trips, fishing, and more. One of the best parts about summer, though, is taking a road trip or some sort of summer vacation. Many this year will not be taking summer trips in Colorado, though, and the reason why is pretty simple.
Coloradoans Not Taking Summer Trips
Taking a summer trip is one of the best parts of the season. Some take a trip to a new destination every year, and other families have a condo or a spot they like to visit each summer to escape work, school, and home for a bit. Bestmoney.com recently released a study that revealed many will not be taking summer trips this year. Of those surveyed, 22% said they would not be taking a summer trip this year, with 81% saying that travel is more expensive this year, and 53% saying that planning a trip is financially stressful. When it comes to paying for trips, 55% of those planning to take a trip plan to use their personal savings, 37% plan to use credit cards, and 30% plan to use their paychecks or income.
Summer Trips Are Expensive in Colorado
Half of Americans have claimed that the travel budget this year is higher than previous years, with 1 in 5 saying it is significantly higher than previous years. Many have had to plan if they want to take a trip this summer, with 38% reducing their spending to save money for a trip, 25% are picking up extra hours at work or working overtime, and 17% took a second job or a side gig to make some extra cash. For those thinking these trips are for relaxation and to unplug from work, only 54% said they won't work at all, with the rest saying they would in some capacity.

Are you planning on taking a trip this summer, or has the price of gas, flying, and everyday living forced you to rethink your plans? Traveling is fun and creates some of the best memories throughout the year, but as everything continues to go up in price, sadly, summer trips might be cut to save money for many in Colorado this year.
