Denver International Airport One of the Worst for Turbulence
Do you always feel like it is a bumpy ride when you are flying into or out of Colorado's Denver International Airport? You are not alone. There have been many occasions that I get to experience a bumpy ride anytime there is a flight out of Denver.
Denver International Airport is one of the largest airports in the world. It is also one of the worst for turbulence. This phenomenon you experience while flying is caused by an irregular motion of air from eddies and vertical currents according to weather.gov. Turbulence can make the start or end of your trip memorable but in a not-so-great way.
Where Does Denver's Airport Rank For Turbulence?
Denver International Airport is one of the worst airports for turbulence in the United States, but not the worst. The number one airport for turbulence is Oregon's Portland International Airport according to Turbli.com.
Turbli ranks airports annually based on the average turbulence scale and Denver ranks as the second worst by only a fraction of a point. Only 0.019 points, to be exact. While you might have flown through Portland International Airport, the worst for turbulence in the nation, it doesn't even compare to the world's worst airports for turbulence.

None of the airports in the United States made the list where the turbulence is the worst in the world. Airports in Tokyo, Osaka, and Christchurch were all ranked worse than either Denver or Portland. The worst airport in the entire world for turbulence is the airport in Santiago, Chile. Turbli ranks Santiago (SCL) Airport's average turbulence at an astonishing 17.137.
