The CSU Rams will play in a bowl game this season, we just don't know which one it is yet.  Colorado State became bowl eligible with win number six over New Mexico. The Rams finished 7-5 this year by coming from behind to edge Fresno State 34-31 in the final game of the season. The bowl pairings will be announced Sunday, December 6th.

The reason CSU is guaranteed postseason play is because there are 40 bowl games, which makes 80 slots to fill. So far, only 75 teams are bowl eligible.  Three more could could still qualify, which makes CSU a lock. It also means the NCAA will have to make an exception for several teams that didn't win the required six games to be bowl-worthy.

According to an article in the Fort Collins Coloradoan:

The Mountain West has contracts to place teams in either the Las Vegas or Hawaii bowls this year, as well as the Poinsettia, Armed Forces, Arizona, New Mexico and Idaho Potato bowls. The conference also will a team to the Cactus Bowl if the Big 12 does not have enough eligible teams to fill its slot after the field for the College Football Playoff’s six bowl games is announced.
