There’s been a major shakeup within the CSU athletics department.
CSU Rams Lose to Hawaii in Front of Sold-Out Crowd at Canvas Stadium
On Saturday, the CSU Rams played to a sold out crowd of 40,000 during their homecoming matchup against Hawaii.

Unfortunately, the team could not secure a win.
Less than 24 hours later, news broke that the football team’s head coach Jay Norvell got the boot.
He will not be returning to coach, effective immediately.

CSU Football Coaching Change: Tyson Summers Named Interim Head Coach
Tyson Summers will be stepping in to the role.
Defensive Coordinator Steps Into Leadership Role Following Norvell’s Departure
Summers is the team’s defensive coordinator and stepped back into the position in January of 2025, according to reports.
He previously worked this position back in 2015 under Mike Bobo.
Summers’ Coaching History: From Colorado to Georgia Southern and Back to CSU
Summers served as the head coach at Georgia Southern and defensive coordinator at Colorado.

CSU Athletic Director Explains Decision Behind Coaching Change
In a statement from CSU’s Athletic Director John Weber, Norvell was described as , “… a leader of the highest character who cares deeply about developing his players as athletes, students, and young men.”

Why Was Head Coach Jay Norvell Fired?
What was the reason for this decision?
This all has to do with CSU’s preparation for officially joining the Pac-12 Conference next year.
“…we need to position our program to compete at the highest level. While we've seen progress, a change in leadership is necessary to achieve the sustained excellence our program requires,” Weber explains.
“We are continuing to invest and work hard to ensure that the football program and the next head coach have the resources needed to capitalize on this historic opportunity."

Jay Norvell's Coaching History
Norvell took the mantle of leading the Rams back in 2021. During his tenure with the program, he lead the Rams to an 8-5 record, which is the best the team has done since 2014 and helped the team get to their first Bowl Game since 2017.
Tyson will be serving as the interim head coach for the time being. Officials from the CSU athletic department confirm that they will immediately begin a nationwide search to find a permanent replacement for Norvell.
