While we head into a 90-something degree Labor Day weekend, this week in 1961, it snowed in the Denver Metro area. That's the earliest date for the Front Range recorded in Colorado history, according to the National Weather Service

The National Weather Service reports that the first measurable snowfall in the Front Range area is, on average, around October 18.

In the last decade, the earliest fall snow came on:

  • October 5, 2012
  • October 6, 2018
  • October 9, 2017
  • October 10, 2019

The Farmer's Almanac predicts Colorado will have a cold, snowy winter this year. Labor Day weekend will be a hot one, but on Monday, the high will be 89 and the low will be 34. No that isn't a typo. On Tuesday, September 8, the high will be in the 40s with 'a chance of rain and snow, with a low around 30.'
