Today is Veterans Day and while we love to celebrate the men and women who have sacrificed so much for our country and freedom, today is a very special day to many and to celebrate that and show a small token of appreciation, many merchants are stepping up and providing our veterans some great deals and ways to save some cash.

Many businesses, schools and federal offices will be closed for the holiday as well.

Veterans Day, originally known as Armistice Day is a federal holiday recognized each year on November 11th but why this particular day? Why November 11?

That is the day because it marks the anniversary of the end of World War I. The major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 when the Armistice with Germany went into effect.

It was known as Armistice Day until 1954 when it officially started being recognized as Veterans Day at the urging of various Veterans groups.

It seems so simple to say to those that have done so much and sacrificed so much but it's really important to make sure we show these special individuals all of the support and love that we can.

To every man and woman that has fought to defend our freedom and way of life in the United States, we say thank you.
