Northern Colorado Lake Closed to Boats For Rest of 2026 Season
Summer is one of the best times of the year to live in Colorado. It is time to go fishing, hiking, camping, get outside and enjoy the weather, and of course, spend some time at the lake. There are some great lakes to enjoy in Northern Colorado, and you can't go wrong with any of them. Some are more popular than others, and some are hidden gems that locals like to keep secret. Some like to fish on the lake, there are those who like to swim, some prefer to hang out on the shore, and many enjoy boating or being on a watercraft. One popular lake in Northern Colorado announced that it will no longer allow boats on the water for the rest of 2026.
Boyd Lake Closed to Boats for 2026 Season

Boyd Lake in Loveland is one of the more popular lakes in Northern Colorado. Many flock to the lake every weekend to get out on the water on their boats, kayaks, paddle boards, or to swim. If you are planning to go boating at Boyd Lake this weekend, Saturday, June 27, and Sunday, June 28, will be your last chance to do so in 2026. Colorado Parks and Wildlife announced that as of 9 PM on Sunday, June 28, the lake will be closed to boats for the rest of the year due to low reservoir levels. This is devastating news for those who enjoy the area and take their boats out on weekends and during the summer. Sadly, this is the result of the lack of snow during the winter and the ongoing drought.
Low Water Levels at Boyd Lake

While boats will no longer be allowed on the lake, kayaks, paddleboards, and swimming will remain permitted for the remainder of the season. While most will be thinking about their own boats not being able to be on the water, this will also affect rescues, as park officials will have to evaluate the use of their own boats and rescue crafts. Many lakes and reservoirs this year have been lower than usual, and areas that are normally meant for swimming have turned into beaches. With Boyd Lake making this change, it may not be the last lake or reservoir to do so before the end of the summer.
