If You Had These In The ’90s, Just Know I Thought You Were Rich

Story time. When I was around ten years old, growing up in tiny Wellington, I went to a friend's house, and they had a hot tub. Holy luxury. It was in that moment that I realized my friend was rich.

Let's take a look at the things that made someone seem rich to me as a kid.

You were rich if you had...

• Obviously, a hot tub. We had a bathtub if that means anything.
• Do you guys remember Glamour Shots? I sure do. Between the soft lighting, the excess of rhinestones, and the hair feathered to God. Seeing those pictures hanging on a friend's wall just screamed We have money and you don't. I'm not bitter.
• A trampoline was the coolest of cool. My family did eventually get a free one, but as far as safety pads go, that wasn't a thing at my house. You just fell through the springs. It was amazing.
• Do you guys remember huge televisions? Not flat-screens, these TVs were about 3,000 pounds, and you could literally see the projector inside doing its thing.
• Speaking of huge, heavy TVs, having cable was a flex in the early 90s. We had 4 channels at my house, so going to stay at a friend's house and choosing from hundreds of channels was mind-blowing. What in the hell is MTV?
• Once upon a time in the wild, wild west of the '90s, when the phone rang, you just answered it. It was a roll of the dice every damn time. If my friend had caller ID, I assumed their parents were doctors or astronauts because, damn, that was a flex.

Looking back now, I can't help but laugh at the small things that I thought were so major and luxurious. A simpler time, I suppose.
