A woman in Madisonville, Kentucky, is behind bars after calling 911 to prevent a fire in the home she's accused of robbing.

According to police, Mary K. Smith, 42, was in the house allegedly trying to steal prescription medication and cigarette filters when she noticed the kitchen stove was turned on. She called 911 to prevent a fire.

Smith was still at the home when firefighters arrived, and after talking with her they questioned whether she was supposed to be in the house in the first place. She later returned to her own home, a few doors away from the house being burglarized, at which point firefighters requested police assistance.

Smith admitted to the responding officer she had entered the house with intent to steal prescription medications and cigarette filters. She also admitted to stealing a little red wagon from the home.

Smith was charged with second-degree burglary.
