May has been a struggle for the Colorado Rockies (13-17) who have gone 2-6 in the first nine days of the month. They'll try to turn things around when they open a weekend series against the Los Angeles Dodgers (20-11) tonight at Dodger Stadium at 8:10 MT (TV: Root Sports).

Left-hander Christian Friedrich made his Major League debut striking out seven in six innings, leading the Colorado Rockies (13-17) to a 6-2 win over the San Diego Padres (11-21) yesterday afternoon at Petco Park. After taking today off, the Rockies continue their road trip tomorrow night against the Dodgers (19-11) in Los Angeles at 8:10 MT (TV: none).

So far the month of May has not been kind to the Colorado Rockies (12-17), who dropped their fifth straight game last night, losing 3-1 to the San Diego Padres (11-20) at Petco Park. Colorado will try to avoid being swept for a second consecutive series this afternoon at 1:35 MT (TV: none).

Jason Giambi's pinch-hit, walk off home run in the bottom of the ninth, broke a 5-5 tie and lifted the Colorado Rockies (12-12) over the Los Angeles Dodgers (17-8) 8-5 yesterday afternoon in Denver. Giambi's blast came after the Dodgers had tied the game in the top of the ninth. Colorado Rockies (11-12) starter Jhoulys Chacin gave up a career-high seven earned runs on 11 hits and four walks while pitching the Rockies into a 7-0 hole in just 4 2/3 innings last night in Denver. Colorado rallied late, but came up short, resulting in a 7-6 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers (17-7). Game 3 of the series is at 1:10 this afternoon at Coors Field (TV: none).

Starter Juan Nicasio and the Colorado Rockies (11-11) combined to beat the hottest team in baseball, the Los Angeles Dodgers (16-7) 6-2 last night in Denver. Nicasio got the win pitching six good inning, and the Rockies bullpen was strong. The two teams meet up again tonight at 6:40 at Coors Field (TV: Root Sports).
