First Colorado Rockies Owner, Jerry McMorris Has Died at 71

I was just a kid when the Colorado Rockies played their first game in 1993, but I do remember the first owner, Jerry McMorris (pictured on the left.) Some sad news today, as the original owner of the Colorado Rockies has passed away at the age of 71.
“It’s a very sad day for the Rockies and for his family,” Rockies owner Dick Monfort said.
McMorris had waged a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer.
“Jerry was a very competitive and tough-willed person and he fought this disease longer than most people could,” Monfort said.
