As a Fort Collins resident, I've been feeling the effects of the city's extremely busy construction season. It seems like every time I turn around, there's another road closed or a detour in place.

I know it's frustrating, but it's important to remember that this construction is essential to keeping our roads safe and updated. The city is investing in a number of projects to improve our infrastructure, and that means some short-term inconveniences.

If you're planning on driving in Fort Collins this summer, it's important to plan your commute ahead of time. Check the city's website for updates on road closures and detours. You can also download the Waze app, which can help you avoid traffic jams and find alternate routes.

I know it's not ideal, but let's all try to be patient with the construction crews. They're working hard to make our city a better place, and it will all be worth it in the end.

HERE ARE SOME TIPS FOR AVOIDING TRAFFIC DURING CONSTRUCTION

  • Leave early for your commute.
  • Take a different route.
  • Use public transportation or rideshare.
  • Work from home if possible.

The Downtown Development Authority of Fort Collins said this.

North College Avenue and Cherry Street north of Downtown Fort Collins will both completely close to traffic as crews replace the Union Pacific railroad crossings on those streets.

The closures will begin early Thursday morning, July 27, and continue through Monday, July 31.

Through traffic will be detoured from N. College Avenue onto Suniga Road and Lemay Avenue to Mulberry Street. Access to residences and businesses will be maintained outside of the work zone, but drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists may need to use alternate routes.

Expect heavy traffic navigating the detour route to access downtown. Please let your customers an employees know to avoid N. College Avenue, Cherry Street, and Jefferson Street; however, local and side streets will remain open for customer and employee access to business.
