If you have never experienced lights behind you when driving, consider yourself lucky. Many have experienced that panic when blue and red lights flash behind you, and you don't know where they came from, and never saw the officer until the lights were on and behind you. It is one of the worst feelings. Usually, you know why they are pulling you over, but when you don't know what you did wrong, panic can often set in. Seeing a cop and knowing you are caught is one thing, but seeing one appear out of nowhere always seems worse. Cops are great at hiding, often in plain sight. Should it be illegal for cops to hide in Colorado when out patrolling the Centennial State?

Cops Hiding in Colorado

Police officers hiding is nothing new. They often find spots where they can monitor traffic without being spotted. Recently, I spotted one that was hiding behind some trees in the dark in Northern Colorado. Luckily, I didn't give the officer a reason to pull me over, but should officers be allowed to hide like this? Their job is to enforce the law and to keep citizens of Colorado safe, and by hiding, it almost feels like they are baiting drivers to break the law. Now, if you drive the speed limit and obey the rules of the road, you have nothing to worry about, but is it enforcing the law or baiting residents? One could argue that it is unethical and seems unfair. Pulling someone over for going a few miles over the speed limit is not the same as pulling someone over who is swerving, and that is harmful on the road. Hiding is one thing, but officers could also be hiding right in front of you.

Typically, police officers hiding are in standard police cars, but there are also officers among normal traffic, hiding in plain sight. Unmarked cop cars are nothing new, but they are getting tougher and tougher to spot. Some look like normal pickup trucks, regular SUVs, and some like normal cars that you wouldn't suspect. It is tougher than ever to spot police officers, which is why it is best to obey traffic laws at all times, because you never know when they are watching or nearby. Even when they aren't around, technology is helping them monitor traffic at all times.

Make sure to keep your eyes open, because officers could be around any tree, corner, or hiding close by where you are driving. Should it be illegal for them to hide? Perhaps, but they will still find a way to make sure you obey the law, which is why it is best to drive safely at all times.
