More seafood is being recalled after the latest information finds that there could be radiation in more shrimp across the United States.

Seattle-based AquaStar Corp. has issued a voluntary recall after the Food and Drug Administration flagged three shrimp products sold in the United States as possibly contaminated with Cesium-137.

FDA Flags Cesium-137 in Shrimp Products

This contamination is a man-made radioactive isotope and could increase the risk of cancer with long-term exposure, even in low doses. While no illnesses have been reported, consumers should take great care and concern when it comes to these shrimp.

The shrimp products were distributed to grocery stores in the majority of the United States under Kroger, which operates as King Soopers, and City Market in the state of Colorado.

Recalled Shrimp in Colorado for Possible Radioactive Contamination

The Food and Drug Administration is currently recalling these three shrimp products for possible Cesium-137 exposure:

  • Kroger Raw Colossal EZ Peel Shrimp - sold in blue-topped 2 lb. bags with a best if used by date ranging from March 26 to April 24, 2027.
  • Kroger Mercado Cooked Medium Peeled Tail-Off Shrimp - sold in green striped 2 lb. packaging with best if used by date ranging from October 22-23, 2027.
  • AquaStar Raw Peeled Tail-On Shrimp Skewers - sold in printed 2 lb. bags with a best if used by date ranging from November 7 to November 15, 2027

What Colorado Consumers Should Do Next

Affected shrimp that you could have in your freezer that were purchased from either King Soopers or City Market would have been sold between June 12 and September 17. 9 News says that customers are being advised not to eat the shrimp. Instead, return the product for a full refund.
