You Won’t Believe What Teachers Are Buying With Their Own Money

If you read my articles, you know how much I appreciate teachers. Especially Northern Colorado teachers. They are truly doing the Lord's work. Good thing they make so much money. That's problem number one. In case you didn't notice, I was being sarcastic.

Not only do teachers give knowledge to our children, but they also often spend their own money on supplies and decorations for their classroom.

Let's take a look at all the ways our teachers go above and beyond.

Most Bought Items

• Simple school supplies. I'm talking about the basics: pencils, paper, crayons, glue, and so on.
• I will never forget my second-grade teacher at Eyestone Elementary. She was kind and funny, and she also put scratch-and-sniff stickers on my homework. I will never ever forget that. And odds are she paid for them herself; our tiny school in Wellington surely didn't have scratch-and-sniff money. I hope she lives on a beautiful island somewhere.
• What about flexible seating? Hear me out. Most elementary school classrooms have a reading corner or nook. And in many cases, teachers will place large pillows and beanbag chairs in the area so kids can read comfortably.
• This next one is a big one. Cleaning supplies. As a hypochondriac, I can't even begin to imagine the sheer volume of sticky fingers, crusty boogers, and the occasional pile of barf on the floor. If I had my way, teachers wouldn't have to spring for Clorox wipes out of their own pockets. In my dream world, schools would be stocked as much as hospitals are.
• Technology accessories seriously matter in 2026. From chargers to batteries, teachers are spending a fortune to make sure their students have everything they need.

Maybe this post is a little depressing, but I felt compelled to write it the first week of school.

We need to protect and care for our teachers because I hate kids and don't know math. You wouldn't want me.
