This year's National Night Out is Tuesday, August 4, 2015. The event encourages citizens to have a block party, meet neighbors and help fight crime in their area.

The program is on the same page as a neighborhood watch program. The idea is to have someone designate themselves as a "block captain" to organize the event for their neighborhood.

It's a great chance to meet new neighbors with an ice cream social, BBQ, corn roast or any type of event they want to plan for that evening. Events usually run between the hours of 4:30pm to 8:30pm in the evening.

If you live in Windsor there will be town representatives from Windsor P.D. and also the Windsor - Severance Fire District who will stop by each location to meet the residents and to discuss concerns, answer questions and get acquainted in a non-formal setting. Also, if you live in a Cul de sac, you can block them off for this event but not through streets.

If you are interested in serving as a Block Captain for National Night Out, call the Windsor Police Department at 970-674-6400 to register.
