
Starter Homes in Three Colorado Cities Surpass $1 Million
The average starter home in the United States is approximately $192,000. Needless to say, Colorado isn't the cheapest state in the nation to purchase a home. Sure, there are plenty of states where you can find a perfectly good home. But, we have some pretty epic mountain views on the Front Range, so we have that going for us.
What Exactly is a Starter Home?
A starter home is usually one that is purchased by first-time homebuyers and is defined as being among the lowest third in home values in a region. In 2020, there were only 85 cities in the United States that had starter homes that were at or exceeded $1 million.

In 2025, that is a whole different story. Today, 233 cities in the United States have starter homes priced at $1 million or more. Colorado has a few of those cities.
Cities in Colorado That Have $1 Million Starter Homes
According to Zillow, three cities in Colorado now have a price tag of $1 million or more for a starter home. It should be no surprise that all of these towns are located in the Denver Metro Area and are highly desirable areas.

The three locations where starter homes are at least $1 million include Cherry Hills Village, Bow Mar, and Columbine Valley. Colorado ranked eleventh on the list of the 25 states that have starter homes with seven-figure price tags.
California has by far the most million-dollar starter homes in the nation. Making up nearly half of the entire list of million-dollar starter home cities in the nation, California has 113. New York was a distant second with 32, and New Jersey was third with 20.
