Coloradans looking to purchase a home in the state will have to bring in a decent salary to even be able to afford a mortgage. Bank Rate says that the average income to afford a home in Colorado is $168,643 annually. This is a big jump in annual salary requirements compared to January 2020, at a 68 percent increase. Bank Rate says that a salary of $100,000 was the average income needed to afford a home in Colorado only five short years ago.

The area that demands the biggest salary in the nation in 2025 is the District of Columbia at a staggering $240,009 per year. Other states on the most expensive list include Massachusetts at $174k, California at $213k, and Hawaii at $235k.
