Larimer County officially has an honorary SWAT kid.

The Larimer County Sheriff's Office named Donovan Esparza, a sixth grader at Turner Middle School in Berthoud, as their honorary SWAT kid. He was chosen to be honored for his love of helping others, his politeness and manners in dealing with teachers and students, his academic achievement, and his initiative in welcoming new students to Turner Middle School with honest friendship and good will.

Donovan has also often expressed his interest in law enforcement, and even attended his school's Halloween dance dressed as a police officer.

As Larimer County's honorary SWAT kid, Donovan will spend time meeting with members of the Northern Colorado Regional SWAT team, where he'll get to learn about equipment and vehicles they use. He'll also be riding with the SWAT team in the Berthoud Day Parade on Saturday, June 4.

Donovan is pictured with his school's resource officer, Deputy Kevin Kingston. They look forward to this award becoming an annual honor.

Congratulations, Donovan!
