While there are a lot of fun events big and small here in Northern Colorado and the Denver area, we must not forget there are a lot of magical celebrations going on this season in the mountains.

If you'd like to get away for a day, weekend, or a little longer, check out one of these mountainous events going on in other parts of Colorado that I found through AAA.

    Santa Express Train on the Royal Gorge Route Railroad

    Ride a real-life Polar Express with the kids on the Royal Gorge's Santa Express Train from November 18 through December 24. Kids are encouraged to wear pajamas on the 30-minute ride to the North Pole, where Santa will hop on board and hand out holiday bells to passengers.

    Tickets range from $30-50 per child ages 1-12, depending on which class you'd like them to be seated in (coach, club, or Vista Dome). Adult prices range from $40-60 per head.

    Salida Mountain Lighting & Parade of Lights

    Skip the Black Friday shopping and opt for a spectacular winter experience in downtown Salida for its annual Parade of Lights and lighting of Christmas Mountain on November 25. Enjoy free hot cocoa, cookies, and entertainment from 6 to 8 p.m.
