Larimer County Jail Inmate Caught Attempting Escape

A Larimer County Jail inmate attempted to escape custody while being transported to a court appearance on Tuesday.

Christopher Gleckler, 33, allegedly damaged a seat belt buckle and removed a spring while riding in a high risk transport vehicle. According to a Larimer County Sheriff's Office press release, Gleckler then attempted to use the spring to remove his handcuffs before deputies stopped him.

Authorities later found the spring still in Glecker's position when they arrived at the court house.

Glecker was initially booked into Larimer County Jail custody on Dec. 22, 2018 for first-degree assault extreme indifference, first-degree assault with a deadly weapon, second-degree assault, parole revocation and three counts of third-degree assault.

He'll now face additional charges for attempt to escape and second degree possession of contraband.

Larimer County Sheriff's Office said jail staff are working with the manufacturer to create a more secure seat belt buckle.
