Living in Colorado is a whirlwind when it comes to weather.

While we've already seen temperatures in the 80s this year, if our state behaves anything like it did in years past, we are likely to witness a May snowstorm in 2020.

Just last year, Fort Collins received a whoppin' 2.7 inches of snow as late as May 21.

2017 saw 7.6 inches of snow in May, while 2014 saw 5.6 inches.

Yet 2013 blew all these years out of the water, when Fort Collins got hit with over a foot of snow for the month (anyone else remember this? I sure do).

Past May Snowfall Totals (from CSU's Colorado Climate Center):

  • 2019: 3 inches
  • 2018: 0 inches
  • 2017: 7.6 inches
  • 2016: 0.1 inches
  • 2015: 1.2 inches
  • 2014: 5.6 inches
  • 2013: 12.9 inches
  • 2012: 0 inches
  • 2011: trace
  • 2010: 4.1 inches
  • 2009: trace

While more snowfall is always good for Colorado's water supply, fingers crossed we don't get anything quite like May of 2013 this year.
